This one is for ages 13 and up.
Calling all teens interested in applying to be the 2024-2025 Burlingame-Hillsborough Youth Poet Laureate!
Applications will open on January 1, 2024 and close on February 29, 2024.
If you are between the ages of 13-18 and live in or attend school in Burlingame or Hillsborough, you are invited to apply to be the City of Burlingame and Town of Hillsborough's 2024-2025 Youth Poet Laureate!
**The Burlingame-Hillsborough Youth Poet Laureate will receive $500 at the end of their term (April 2025).**
This one is for 8th graders only.
Submissions for the 2024 YANovCon Short Story Contest open Friday, December 1, 2023 and close Monday, December 31, 2023! This year's YANovCon theme is "To Be You: Identity in the Age of Censorship." Please create a short story that reflects your interpretation of this theme, using the following guidelines:
- Open to 8-12 graders who reside in San Mateo County
- Submit your own original work of 500 words or less
- Stories can be realistic fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, dystopian, or whatever you come up with
- All submissions are due by Monday, December 31, 2023
Winners will receive prizes:
1st Place Prize: Large Book Bundle and Journal
2nd Place Prize: Medium Book Bundle and Journal
3rd Place Prize: Small Book Bundle and Journal

Winners will be announced at the ninth annual Young Adult Novelist Convention (YANovCon) on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the South San Francisco Public Library | Parks & Recreation Center (901 Civic Campus Way).
