Dear Crocker,
It has come to our attention that some people are taking items that do not belong to them. Here are some strategies you can use to protect yourself:
1. If you think a classmate is joking or playing around by taking something of yours, tell your classmate kindly but firmly not to take it and return it right away.
2. You can tell a teacher or trusted adult. It can be better to avoid an argument by getting an adult involved. If you have any doubts, it's okay to go to a teacher or other trusted adult to make sure the problem gets solved fairly.
3. If someone has a reputation for using other people's stuff without asking, avoid them! Remember, when someone takes something that doesn't belong to them without permission, it's called stealing and is against our school policy. (CA Ed Code 48900e)
4. Keep track of your things. If you don't want someone taking or using your stuff at school, you'd better keep it in a safe place, like your locker. Be responsible and don't leave your belongings unattended or open. Do not bring items of value to school.
The staff will be monitoring, and we hope this issue will stop soon.
Thank you,
