Buzz - Update From Crocker Advisors Meeting

Good Morning Crocker!

I met with the Crocker Advisors yesterday and we discussed 3 topics.

1.       The Bathrooms

2.       Hate Speech

3.       WEB

When discussing ways to make sure the bathrooms used for their intent, not for extra-curricular activities, the team shared their perspectives. What I took away from the conversation is 98% of our students are using it appropriately.  The team did not offer another solution ( instead of keeping the doors open)  for the 2% ….and the more I thought about it…I decided I wanted to celebrate the 98% who are using it appropriately; therefore, I ask Mr. Calderon to close the door. Thank you Crocker Advisors for sharing your thoughts and helping me focus on what is truly important …all the students who understand following Crocker rules makes for a better environment for everyone!

When discussing Hate Speech.  The team was not clear as to why I was asking. I explained there have been times when students have made other students feel disrespected by their words  - I gave a couple of examples…and we had a good conversation about why some middle schooler might do that and what we could do  to send a strong message Crocker is a place for everyone.  Although we did not have a “quick” answer, nor should we, I thought further about it and decided I needed to hear from more students.  I will make plans to be out on campus during lunch and lunch recess a few days a week.  My hope is more students will have access to me and be willing to share experiences.  Today, I will be in the courtyard during lunch and the library for the lunch recess.  Please feel free to come share your thoughts. Each week I will let you know the days I will be out on the yard.   And,  of course you can always come to my office!

When discussing WEB, students had some great ideas for Ms. Slater to think about and share with the staff. I am excited to see where the staff goes with these ideas as well as some of the things Ms. Slater has been working on.

If you have topics you would like the team to discuss, please email me and I will put them on the agenda…and if you are willing… you should come to the meeting in person to share your ideas.

Crocker values all students and I want to make sure all voices are heard.  This is your school and as your leader I want everyone to work together to create a school where every student looks forward to be on campus and is celebrated for who they are!

I hope to chat with more students soon!
