Good Morning Crocker!
The Crocker Advisors met on Thursday last week and we discussed a variety of topics. Below is a brief recap …and one action step.
Electives: It seems the Advisors like the variety of electives Crocker has been offering and would like to see similar ones next year. We highlighted the things we liked about each elective - but the main take-way was clear -- electives offer opportunities to enjoy the more creative aspects of learning. Flex was also appreciated. I shared many of the electives and flex classes will be offered 6th period next year. Students seemed to like this change for next year's schedule.
Homework: We shifted our attention to homework. The students had varying opinions as to what grade level and/or department had the most homework. It was an interesting conversation, but since there was no consensus, I think it is fair to say individuals have different opinions about homework. It was mentioned, however, that it's very helpful when teachers actually place due dates for assignments on their calendars and not just within the assignments. I felt most teachers did that, but I said I would share that suggestion.
Finally, we discussed whether or not the 6th graders could possibly eat lunch outside. We talked about the shortage of space outside and whether or not there was room for all grade levels to eat outside. We decided to try this on Fridays - Students choose where they eat, inside or outside. We will begin on this Friday. The MPR will still be open for seating and everyone can choose whether to eat inside or outside.
Our next Crocker Advisor meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 28th at noon. Remember, everyone is invited.
Best,
Dr. Adams
