The Gardening Club has 30 milkweed plants to give away. Come to the greenhouse Wednesday at dismissal time to take a plant and plant it in your yard!
Monarch butterflies use the milkweed flower for nectar and for laying eggs and feeding, to then migrate to Mexico.
The migratory monarch butterfly is listed as endangered due to habitat loss, pesticide use and climate change. Pesticide use has destroyed milkweed, the only plant the butterflies eat.
Milkweed is toxic to humans and animals if ingested. By accepting this plant, you agree that you understand the risks and will work with your parents to find a location for planting in an area away from pets or young children.
Butterflies LOVE Milkweed and will be very happy to visit your yard often after it's planted!
